CCM PEACE WALK
The idea of an International Day for Peace was brought to the United Nations in 1981. Following two decades of concern about the tragic poverty of some countries dependent on food aid, while military spending expanded, the aim was to strengthen the idea of peace and to build a fairer world across all nations. A broader goal, added as the 21st Century opened, was to urge a bare 24 hour cessation of hostilities and global ceasefire
so that relief workers may bring food and medical aid to those in war zones.
This gathering is open to all – people of every faith and background and walk of life. As we walk side by side, we may reflect on what peace means in our own lives, in our communities, and in the world.
